The Government took the first step to privatize the social security of the security forces
The Argentine government has initiated the process to privatize the social security system for its security forces by calling for public tenders.
On Friday, the Argentine government officially announced the public tender to privatize the social security system for its security forces. A resolution was published in the Official Bulletin, allowing for the contract of a "comprehensive medical assistance provider" to deliver medical service to members of the Gendarmerie and Naval Prefecture. Notably, the Federal Police is excluded from this arrangement as it operates its own health system.
This decision addresses the precarious situation faced by nearly 600,000 affiliates who were previously part of the now-defunct Institute of Social Work for the Armed Forces and Security (IOSFA). The public tender, designated as Public Call N° 347-1001-LPU26, aims to contract an entity that can provide the necessary healthcare assistance to these federal security forces. This move is part of a broader strategy to improve health services for the personnel who ensure public safety.
By privatizing the social security for these forces, the government hopes to streamline healthcare delivery and address the failures of the previous system which has been criticized for its inefficiencies. The implications of this privatization may be significant, as many affiliates have faced difficulties in accessing adequate healthcare, and this transition could set a precedent for the privatization of other public services in Argentina.
