Used drugs shortly before transporting students - 48-year-old school bus driver arrested

A 48-year-old school bus driver was arrested after allegedly using drugs shortly before transporting students, amid the dismantling of a cannabis cultivation operation.

The Attica Police's Crime Suppression Division successfully dismantled a fully equipped cannabis cultivation laboratory in homes located in Aigaleo during a targeted operation on March 19. This operation resulted in the arrest of a 48-year-old man, who now faces charges related to drug laws and endangering minors. A number of items were confiscated during the search, including cannabis plants, cocaine, cultivation equipment, electronic scales, and a vehicle used for drug trafficking.

The most alarming aspect of this case is the fact that the arrested individual was employed as a school bus driver and was reportedly under the influence of drugs just before transporting children. This revelation has raised significant concerns about the safety of students and the integrity of those responsible for their transportation. Authorities are treating this incident with urgency, highlighting the broader implications of drug misuse and its potential impact on public safety.

The Greek police have issued a statement detailing the operation and emphasizing their commitment to combating drug-related crimes. The arrested driver has been brought before the competent prosecutor, as investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the drug operation and assess any further risks to the community. Such incidents underline the need for vigilant pre-employment screenings and ongoing monitoring of professionals in public safety roles.
