Lithuanian Defence Minister R. Kaunas expressed surprise at the reactions following his comments regarding Poland's involvement in the Kapčiamiestis training ground. He noted that while there is a tendency for opposition figures to politicize responses for sensationalism, Poland has indicated a preference to engage at the Kapčiamiestis site rather than pursuing the construction of a new facility on its own territory. This reflects Poland's ongoing expansion of military capabilities in other locations, which could potentially influence future collaborative efforts with Lithuania.

Kaunas emphasized that Poland does not currently see a need for establishing a new training ground on its side of the border. Instead, Lithuania intends to utilize the Kapčiamiestis site primarily for its military needs. He reassured that such developments do not disrupt the existing plans for joint exercises between Poland and Lithuania, thereby highlighting the strategic partnership within the NATO framework. Furthermore, both countries are committed to their military cooperation, with Lithuania set to establish the Kapčiamiestis training ground primarily for its own defense requirements.
