R. Kaunas in Latvia: Discussed Training Opportunities for the Armies of Both Countries

Lithuanian Defense Minister R. Kaunas discussed joint military training opportunities with his Latvian counterpart during a visit to Latvia.

During a visit to Latvia, Lithuanian Defense Minister R. Kaunas explored the implementation of training ranges and discussed the prospects for joint military exercises between the Lithuanian and Latvian armies. In his statements to the press, Kaunas highlighted the political agreement that underpins these collaborative training efforts, indicating that such exercises could also take place in Lithuania's new training ground, as previously agreed with Poland.

Kaunas noted that military leaders would be coordinating specific details, emphasizing the importance of political will in moving forward with organizing training sessions. The cooperation aims to enhance operational capabilities for both countries' armed forces, showcasing a commitment to bolstering defense partnerships within the Baltic region.

The Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence indicated that the development of the Sėlijos military training ground is being carried out in several phases. The first phase has included the establishment of logistical support areas, munitions storage facilities, and various shooting ranges for infantry and specialized units, enhancing the capacity for coordinated military training between Lithuania and its neighbors like Latvia and Poland.
