A Tajik citizen illegally crossed the Latvian border in a Lexus, damaging two barriers in the process.
On Thursday, at the Terehova border control point in Latvia, a Tajik citizen drove a Lexus at high speed and illegally crossed the national border, causing damage to two barriers. The State Border Guard of Latvia reported that the driver ignored orders from border guards to stop, leading them to deploy a vehicle stopping device called 'hedgehog' in an attempt to block the car's exit. Despite these efforts, the driver continued to evade capture.
Following the unauthorized crossing, border guards initiated search operations that included personnel from the border guard and aerial support, in collaboration with the State Police. These efforts were ultimately successful, as police officials were able to stop the sought vehicle in the Isnauda parish of Ludza municipality. The incident led to a swift response from law enforcement, underscoring the vigilance of border control authorities in Latvia.
As a result of this incident, a criminal case has been opened regarding the deliberate illegal crossing of the state's external border using a vehicle. Additionally, administrative proceedings have begun against the individual for breaching border crossing protocol, emphasizing the seriousness with which Latvian authorities treat border violations. This incident not only raises concerns about border security but also highlights the ongoing issues of illegal crossings and the challenges faced by law enforcement in managing these situations effectively.
