An Uzbek living and working in Lithuania used a forged driver's license

An Uzbek national in Lithuania was caught using a fake driver's license during a routine check by border guards.

On Sunday, border guards from the Pagėgiai Border Guard Station stopped a Latvian-registered Mercedes Benz bus on the Bauskė–Panevėžys highway near the village of Škilinpamūšis for routine inspection. Among the passengers was a 33-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan, who presented a driver's license purportedly issued in his name. However, upon further examination, the guards suspected the authenticity of the document, noticing several irregularities that indicated it had not been produced according to safe document production standards.

The border guards identified multiple signs of forgery on the driver's license, which prompted them to investigate further. The Uzbek national, who holds a temporary residence permit in Lithuania, is now under suspicion for presenting a forged document. The case has raised concerns regarding document verification processes and may highlight broader issues related to the use of counterfeit identification in the region.

As a result of the incident, the Pagėgiai Border Guard Station has initiated a pre-trial investigation under the guidance of the Panevėžys District Prosecutor's Office. This case serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle against document forgery, which poses risks not only to border security but also to the integrity of legal identification systems in Lithuania.
