Daytime 5-Star Chef, Nighttime Thief: Master Key Opens House in Minutes
A chef from a reputed five-star hotel in Delhi was arrested for stealing from homes while posing as a upstanding worker.
The police in South West Delhi's RK Puram have apprehended a thief who also works as a chef at a renowned five-star hotel. The accused, known as Nilesh alias Nikesh, is a 22-year-old who was leading a lavish lifestyle while succumbing to the temptation of easy money through crime. His method was notably cunning; he primarily targeted homes with 'Chinese locks' and possessed a master key that enabled him to swiftly unlock doors, steal valuables, and relock the house to avoid immediate suspicion from the owners.
The incident occurred on February 14, 2026, when T. Sen and his family left for a wedding in Rajasthan. Upon their return on February 18, they found their house locked, but discovered a theft of 3.5 lakh rupees in cash and a significant amount of jewelry. Upon reviewing CCTV footage, the police observed a suspicious individual opening the gate, and later fleeing with stolen items on a scooter about half an hour later.
The investigation led police to identify the suspect as Nilesh from RK Puram, revealing the stark contrast between his day job in the culinary arts and his criminal activities at night. This case underscores the unexpected realities of crime, highlighting how individuals may lead double lives, and serves as a warning for homeowners to remain vigilant about their security measures.
