Anambra residents benefit from NYSC health care initiative for rural dwellers

The NYSC in Anambra State conducted a health initiative that provided free medical services to about 120 rural residents.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) conducted its "First Quarter 2026 Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers" at the Pat Angelina Anyaegbu Memorial Hospital in Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The outreach, which took place on Thursday, aimed to offer comprehensive medical care to underserved populations in the area and was made possible through collaboration with the local hospital. Around 120 residents, including the elderly, women, youth, and children, benefited from the initiative, which is part of NYSC's ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare access in rural communities.

NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua, expressed gratitude to the Amichi community for allowing the corps to implement such impactful programs. She highlighted the significance of the health initiative as a milestone for the local community, emphasizing the importance of outreach programs like HIRD in improving the health conditions of rural dwellers. By providing free medical services, the NYSC aims to make a substantial difference in the lives of vulnerable populations, addressing crucial healthcare gaps that often exist in these areas.

Ojisua further articulated the mission behind the HIRD initiative, which seeks to uplift families and strengthen communities through better health outcomes. The initiative not only provides immediate healthcare benefits but also strives to instill a sense of hope and support for sustainable health improvements in rural areas. This health outreach is part of a broader commitment by the NYSC to utilize their resources for community development and social welfare, reinforcing the importance of health as a cornerstone for overall development in rural Nigeria.
