Corps members covered by insurance, says NYSC DG
The Director-General of Nigeria's National Youth Service Corps has confirmed that all corps members are covered by a comprehensive insurance package that includes life insurance and medical care.
The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Nigeria, Olakunle Nafiu, has stated that all corps members are protected by a comprehensive insurance package during their service year. This announcement was made during a visit by Jibrin Ndace, the Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, where Nafiu emphasized the importance of the welfare of the corps members. He highlighted that the insurance coverage not only includes life insurance but also medical care for their well-being throughout their service.
Nafiu further explained that the Federal Government has implemented various measures to ensure a safe and productive service experience for the corps members. He mentioned the organization’s role in intervening in emergencies that may not be entirely covered by health insurance, underscoring NYSC’s commitment to the welfare of its members. He cited specific past instances where the scheme provided financial assistance, including substantial payments to support a pregnant corps member undergoing critical medical treatment and another involved in a serious road accident.
The discussion reflects ongoing efforts by the NYSC to enhance the support structures in place for corps members, ensuring they are not only serving the nation but also receiving adequate protection against unforeseen circumstances. This move is significant in fostering confidence among the corps members and their families regarding their safety and health protection during their service year.
