Fuel prices at gas stations in Estonia slightly decreased recently due to government measures aimed at mitigating the impact of global supply issues.
In recent weeks, fuel prices at gas stations in Estonia rose sharply due to the conflict in the Middle East, which caused supply problems. However, on the morning of March 20, gas stations reported a slight decline in fuel prices compared to the previous day. Despite this decrease, prices still remain below 2 euros per liter.
On March 19, Postimees reported that the Estonian government approved and submitted a proposal to the Riigikogu to cancel an expected increase in energy carrier taxes that was scheduled to come into effect on May 1 this year. This decision aims to alleviate financial pressures on both individuals and businesses by maintaining lower prices for fuels like gasoline and diesel, as well as heating oils and natural gas. Specifically, this measure keeps the prices of gasoline and diesel around 4 cents per liter lower than they would have been without the tax increase.
By introducing this measure, the Estonian government seeks to cushion the effects of rising global fuel prices on the domestic market and support the economy during these challenging times. The step taken is critical for maintaining manageable costs for consumers amid international fluctuations, emphasizing the government's proactive response to global crises affecting local economies.
