Suspect in stalking murder case in Namyangju transferred to prison, claims he approached victim to 'restore relationship'

The suspect in a stalking murder case in Namyangju, Kim Hoon, has been transferred from a hospital to prison, where he claims his intentions toward the victim were to restore their relationship.

Kim Hoon, a 44-year-old suspect involved in the stalking murder of a woman in her twenties in Namyangju, has been relocated to prison from a hospital where he was receiving treatment. His transfer occurred after medical staff indicated an improvement in his condition, enabling him to continue treatment within the prison’s medical facilities. The suspect was previously found unconscious after ingesting drugs before his arrest on the evening of the incident, which took place on October 14. Reports indicate that he claims his presence at the victim’s location was an attempt to reconnect and mend their relationship, although he is evasive regarding the motive behind the murder itself and has stated he cannot remember key details pertaining to it.

On the morning of the incident, Kim allegedly murdered his former girlfriend with a knife on a public street in Namyangju and fled the scene. He was apprehended about an hour later in Yangpyeong while in a drugged state. Investigators have since uncovered evidence suggesting that Kim had premeditated the crime, including the discovery of a tracking device in the victim’s vehicle and surveillance of her workplace prior to the murder. These findings lead to serious concerns regarding his behavior and actions leading up to the incident, indicating that he had been stalking and potentially engaging in violent behavior prior to the crime.

The victim had previously reported instances of stalking and domestic violence, prompting public outrage over the police's inadequate response to her numerous complaints. This ongoing controversy raises questions about law enforcement's ability to protect citizens from stalking and domestic violence incidents. The police plan to extend their investigation within the confines of the suspect’s detention period by interviewing witnesses and employees involved in the case.
