Namyangju stalking murder suspect says, 'I don't remember the situation of the crime'... evading police questioning

A man in his 40s who allegedly murdered a woman in her 20s in Namyangju claims he does not remember the circumstances of the crime, despite evidence of premeditation, including the installation of a tracking device.

In Namyangju, a man in his 40s is under investigation for the murder of a woman in her 20s, with reports indicating that he is evading crucial police questioning by claiming he does not remember the events surrounding the crime. This follows his arrest after he allegedly killed the woman with a knife on the morning of the 14th, and subsequently fled the scene before being found in a drugged state about an hour later. Despite providing basic information during the police investigation, he is reportedly selective in his responses, only acknowledging favorable aspects while avoiding details that could incriminate him.

The investigation revealed that tracking devices were discovered in the victim's vehicle, highlighting premeditation as the suspect had scouted the victim's workplace prior to the incident. Additionally, the perpetrator had a history of domestic violence and had been reported for stalking multiple times, resulting in protective measures being issued against him, indicating a pattern of abusive behavior. Tragically, the victim was given a smartwatch as a safety device, which proved ineffective as the electronic monitoring device worn by the assailant was not linked to her tracker.

As authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, concerns have arisen regarding the police's response before and after the murder, especially regarding the decision not to implement electronic monitoring measures that could have potentially prevented the tragedy. The North Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency is currently conducting an internal review of how they handled the case leading up to the murder and whether to disclose the criminal's identity, with public outrage likely stemming from perceived failures in the protection of the victim.
