‘Namyangju Stalking Murder’ Arrest Warrant Issued for 40-Year-Old Man
A man in his 40s has been detained for the murder of a woman he had been stalking, with an arrest warrant now in process following his capture.
In Namyangju, South Korea, a man in his 40s has been implicated in the shocking murder of a woman he had been stalking. The North Gyeonggi Police Agency announced on the 16th that they had filed for an arrest warrant against the suspect, referred to as Mr. G, for murder following a review with the prosecutor's office within the urgent arrest timeline of 48 hours. The preliminary examination for him is scheduled for the morning of the 17th, suggesting a swift legal response to a grave incident.
The incident occurred on the morning of the 14th, when Mr. G allegedly attacked a woman in her 20s, who was in a de facto marital relationship with him, on a road in Namyangju. After committing the crime, he reportedly damaged his electronic ankle monitor and attempted to evade capture in a vehicle. He was apprehended by police approximately an hour later, around 10:08 AM, in Yangpyeong County, after having lost consciousness due to the consumption of alcohol and drugs. Emergency medical personnel transferred him to a hospital for treatment after his arrest.
While at the hospital, medical staff assessed that Mr. G required several days of inpatient care due to his unconscious state. Due to this condition, police recognized the challenges in conducting thorough questioning within the urgent arrest timeline and initially considered obtaining a search warrant for the suspect instead. However, upon his partial recovery, the police quickly moved forward, outlining their intentions to file for an arrest warrant in coordination with the prosecutor’s office while they continued to investigate the motivation and circumstances surrounding the crime against the victim, which raises broader issues about domestic violence and stalking in South Korea.
