Tax Authority Releases Income Tax Declaration Program; See How to Download
The Brazilian tax authority has released the 2026 income tax declaration program ahead of schedule, allowing taxpayers to start filling out their declarations.
The Brazilian tax authority, Receita Federal, has officially launched the 2026 income tax declaration program, available for download on their website. Initially scheduled for release on Friday, the program is now accessible, with instructions provided for downloading the IRPF 2026 software that corresponds to the calendar year 2025. Taxpayers are encouraged to begin the declaration process as the software allows for early entry, although submissions will be permitted only starting at 8 AM on the coming Monday, marking the official commencement of the income tax submission period.
Taxpayers who choose to utilize the software can start filling out their income declarations ahead of the official submission time. The Receita Federal has set a deadline for income tax submissions, requiring all declarations to be submitted by 11:59 PM on May 29. This year, the income threshold obligating individuals to file a tax return is set at R$ 35,584 in taxable income for the previous year, which translates to about R$ 2,965.3 per month. This requirement aims to ensure compliance and proper tax reporting among Brazilian taxpayers.
The traditional method used by most taxpayers remains the download of the PGD (Programa Gerador da Declaração) software, which simplifies the reporting process. By enforcing a clear timeline and making the software readily available, the Brazilian tax authority seeks to enhance compliance rates and provide better guidance for taxpayers during the declaration period, reflecting efforts to streamline the tax filing procedure in Brazil.
