See the documentation to declare Income Tax in the first days
Taxpayers in Brazil can begin organizing documents to file their 2026 income tax declaration starting March 16, with early filers potentially receiving refunds sooner.
In Brazil, taxpayers are encouraged to start organizing their documentation for the 2026 Income Tax declaration. The official submission period is set to begin on March 16 and will close on May 29, 2026. Early submissions can lead to quicker refunds, as processing prioritizes the order of declaration submissions. The Federal Revenue Service of Brazil has yet to release detailed information regarding official dates and mandatory rules for filing.
In addition to ensuring that all necessary documents are ready for submission, taxpayers are advised to check their pre-filled declaration information against the proof of earnings and deductible expenses from 2025. This step helps to mitigate the risk of falling into the backlog of delayed submissions, commonly referred to as 'malha fina.' Those who miss the filing deadline face a minimum penalty of R$ 165.74, which may increase to 20% of the outstanding tax owed for the year.
Marcos Hangui, a specialist in income tax at King Contabilidade, emphasizes the importance of early filing to avoid penalties and expedite the refund process. As the deadline approaches, taxpayers are urged to be proactive in preparing their documentation to ensure compliance and maximize their potential returns in a timely manner.
