A self-proclaimed astrologer and 'godman' in Maharashtra has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman and exploiting several others, with authorities uncovering 58 explicit video clips during the investigation.

In a shocking turn of events in Nashik, Maharashtra, Ashok Kharat, a self-styled astrologer and 'godman' known as 'Captain Kharat', has been arrested by the police under serious allegations including drugging and repeatedly raping a married woman. The victim, a 35-year-old, reportedly fell prey to his deceptive claims about religious rituals and divine powers, leading to a prolonged period of abuse from November 2022 to December 2025. Such heinous acts not only underline the grave issue of exploitation by fake spiritual leaders but also raise significant alarm regarding women's safety in the region.

During a police raid at Kharat's office, authorities discovered a pen drive containing 58 explicit video clips, raising concerns about the potential involvement of high-profile women and celebrities. These clips have now been submitted for forensic examination. Additionally, it was revealed that Kharat's former employee, Neeraj Jadhav, had been reportedly blackmailing women by sending them objectionable photographs, adding another shocking layer to this complex case.

Moreover, the situation escalated further when it was reported that a staff member from Kharat's office faced charges related to extortion and threats involving the circulation of obscene images in Shirdi. This broader network of deceitful practices sheds light on how individuals with fraudulent claims of divinity can manipulate and exploit vulnerable women in society, necessitating urgent action from law enforcement to safeguard potential victims from such predators.
