Passenger dies after truck crashes and catches fire on Goiás highway
A 22-year-old passenger died after the truck he was in crashed into another truck and caught fire on the BR-153 highway in Goiás.
On Thursday, a tragic accident occurred on the BR-153 highway in Goiás, where a 22-year-old passenger lost his life after the truck he was traveling in collided with another truck and subsequently caught fire. The driver of the truck, aged 25, sustained severe injuries and was transported to a hospital in Morrinhos for treatment. Meanwhile, the 55-year-old driver of the truck that was hit did not suffer any injuries in the incident, although the truck involved was completely destroyed by the fire that ensued after the crash.
According to reports from the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the fire erupted immediately after the impact, resulting in significant traffic congestion that lasted for at least three hours. The Triunfo Concebra company that manages the highway section also confirmed via social media that the road remained partially closed in the municipalities of Goiatuba and Panamá, affecting many motorists in the area. The PRF mentioned that the passenger was rescued from the wreckage before the flames could spread but tragically succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
This incident raises critical concerns about highway safety and the dangers of large vehicle collisions. The authorities are likely to conduct an investigation into the crash to determine the precise circumstances that led to the fatal accident. Such occurrences not only pose risks to those directly involved but also disrupt traffic and create hazardous conditions for other drivers, underscoring the need for enhanced road safety measures.
