Couple dies after truck overturns on BR-153 in Porangatu
A couple of truck drivers died when their truck overturned and hit a tree on BR-153 in Porangatu, Goiás, Brazil.
A tragic accident occurred on Sunday morning (October 8) involving a couple of truck drivers who lost their lives when their truck overturned on the BR-153 highway in Porangatu, Northern Goiás. The victims, 64-year-old Maria Helena Barnabe Pedro and her 66-year-old husband Oduvaldo Pedro, had been driving together for several years. According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the couple was on their way from São Paulo to the North of Brazil when the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the fatal incident.
The truck, which was carrying solar energy panels, veered off the road and overturned, crashing into a tree. Rescue personnel from the Fire Department reported that both victims were trapped in the wreckage, making it difficult to determine who was driving at the time of the accident due to the complexity of the situation. The PRF indicated that the truck's cargo consisted of solar energy panels, highlighting the potential for economic loss as well.
This incident raises concerns about road safety, especially for long-haul truck drivers who spend extended periods on the road. As Brazil continues to develop its infrastructure, ensuring the safety of transportation networks is essential to prevent future tragedies like this and to support the livelihoods of those who work in the commercial driving sector.
