In a generous gesture marking the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebration, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has donated relief materials to inmates across 13 custodial centres. The donation, which was communicated through a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, CSC Musbahu Nassarawa, underscores the government’s initiative to ensure that inmates have a semblance of festive celebration, despite their incarceration.

The relief materials distributed include 14 cows, 82 bags of 50kg rice, 38 jerrycans of 25kg cooking oil, and various soup ingredients. This effort not only aims to enrich the dietary provisions for the inmates but also serves as a reminder of their humanity and the importance of community during significant celebrations. The presentation of the items was performed by Hajiya Azumi Namadi Bebeji, Chairperson of the Committee on Prerogative of Mercy, who emphasized the state's commitment to the welfare of all residents, inclusive of those in custodial settings.

This initiative reflects a growing trend in Nigeria as state governments become more aware of the need for the humane treatment of inmates, especially during festive periods. It highlights the balance between security and compassion within the corrections system, aiming to foster a rehabilitative environment.
