Piauí will receive 41 rain gauge stations to strengthen rainfall monitoring
Piauí is set to install 41 new rain gauge stations across 16 municipalities to improve weather monitoring and disaster prevention efforts.
The state of Piauí will see the installation of 41 rain gauge stations in a significant investment aimed at enhancing rainfall monitoring. Announced by the Secretariat of Civil Defense (Sedec) in partnership with the Federal Government, this initiative is designed to improve data collection precision and disaster prevention policies, as part of a broader strategy by the Centre for Risk and Disaster Management (Cegrid). The implementation is scheduled for the year 2026.
The new stations will provide critical data across 16 municipalities within the state, including Altos, Amarante, and Piripiri, among others. Each location will receive multiple stations according to their specific monitoring needs. This move is expected to establish a more robust infrastructure for tracking rainfall patterns and facilitating timely warnings about potential weather-related disasters.
Moreover, the Civil Defense of Piauí is building on its strategic partnership with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, collaborating closely with the National Center for Monitoring and Alerting Natural Disasters (Cemaden) to ensure that these systems bolster the region’s preparedness against environmental disasters. The enhancement of rainfall monitoring through these stations is a proactive step toward protecting the communities in Piauí from the adverse effects of climate change and natural calamities.
