PDP Condemns APC-led Government Over Nigeria’s Global Terrorism Index
The Peoples Democratic Party has criticized the All Progressives Congress-led government for Nigeria's alarming ranking as the fourth most impacted country on the Global Terrorism Index for 2026.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed strong condemnation of the Nigerian government, led by the All Progressives Congress (APC), after the release of the 2026 Global Terrorism Index. The report indicates that Nigeria has risen to the fourth spot on the index, highlighting a troubling increase in terrorist-related fatalities. With 750 deaths recorded in 2025—representing a 46 percent rise from the previous year—the PDP claims this stat is a damning reflection of the government's ineffective approach to national security.
In its statement, the PDP, represented by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, pointed to the report as evidence of deteriorating security conditions across the nation. The Sahel region's growing prominence as the global epicenter of terrorism, which accounts for nearly half of all such deaths worldwide for the third consecutive year aligns with the party’s argument of governmental failure. They assert that safeguarding citizens is a fundamental responsibility of the government, which they believe has not been met.
The PDP has called upon President Bola Tinubu to leverage his political skills to effectively tackle the worsening security landscape. The criticism emphasizes the urgent need for proposed government reforms in addressing the root causes of terrorism and the devastating impacts on communities across Nigeria, especially as the nation grapples with intensifying violence and instability.
