ADC criticizes Tinubu over Nigeria’s global terrorism index
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned President Bola Tinubu's governance, citing rising terrorism and civilian deaths in Nigeria as per the latest Global Terrorism Index report.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed strong criticism of President Bola Tinubu regarding the escalating violence and rising number of civilian fatalities linked to terrorism in Nigeria. By referring to the 2026 Global Terrorism Index report, the ADC highlighted a significant deterioration in security, which has seen Nigeria ranked fourth globally, with a reported 750 terrorism-related deaths in 2025, marking a 46% increase from the prior year. The party attributes this alarming increase to what it perceives as a failure of governance under Tinubu’s administration.
In a statement released by Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, the party called for urgent action to address the crisis. It proposed a three-pronged strategy focused on improving intelligence coordination among security agencies, decentralizing policing to better manage local security issues, and shifting from a reactive to a proactive stance in combating terrorism. These measures, the ADC argues, are crucial for effectively tackling the growing security challenges in Nigeria.
The ADC’s statement comes in light of broader concerns over rising insecurity in various regions, particularly the Sahel, which has been identified as a central hub for global terrorism. As Nigeria grapples with the implications of its ranking on the Global Terrorism Index, the ADC's criticisms not only spotlight the pressing issue of security governance but also challenge the current administration to take decisive action to restore safety and stability in the country.
