Campo Grande gains COP15 Forest with planting of 250 seedlings
Campo Grande will establish a new green space, the 'Bosque da COP15', with the planting of 250 tree seedlings as a legacy of an international conservation conference.
Campo Grande is set to inaugurate a new green space named the 'Bosque da COP15' as a legacy of the upcoming 2023 global conference on the conservation of migratory species. The project involves the planting of 250 tree seedlings, including various native species such as ipΓͺs, jacarandΓ‘s, angicos, manduvis, and fruit trees, contributing to the urban forest's expansion in the area. This initiative is a collaboration between the municipal government and the Secretariat of the Environment, Urban Management, Economic Development, Tourism, and Sustainability (Semades).
The conference, which will take place from March 23-29, 2023, in the capital city, aims to bring together representatives from numerous countries to discuss conservation efforts. The 'Bosque da COP15' project is aligned with the environmental actions linked to the conference and is expected to play an essential role in enhancing urban greening efforts in Campo Grande. This initiative also aims to provide habitats and food sources for local wildlife, thus contributing to the strengthening of the local biodiversity.
Following the internationally recognized 3-30-300 rule for urban forestry, the project aspires to create a healthy urban environment where each person lives within 300 meters of a green space, sees three trees from their home, and has a total of 30 trees per block. By implementing this project, Campo Grande reinforces its commitment to urban sustainability and biodiversity conservation, leaving an impactful legacy following the COP15 conference.
