Mogi das Cruzes loses seven positions in the Sanitation Ranking; Suzano and Itaquaquecetuba advance
Mogi das Cruzes has dropped seven places in the Basic Sanitation Ranking, while neighboring cities Suzano and Itaquaquecetuba have seen improvements.
The latest Basic Sanitation Ranking released by Instituto Trata Brasil has shown a concerning decline for the city of Mogi das Cruzes, which fell from 60th to 67th place, making it the only municipality in the Alto TietΓͺ region to lose ground this year. This shift highlights ongoing challenges in managing sanitation infrastructure and services in Mogi das Cruzes, raising questions about local governance and resource allocation.
In contrast, the neighboring city of Suzano has made notable progress, advancing to 28th place after climbing seven positions from the previous year. This improvement reflects effective strategies and investments in their sanitation sector, thereby enhancing the quality of life for its residents. Itaquaquecetuba has also recorded gains, jumping from 58th to 54th place, indicating a positive trend in service delivery in that municipality as well.
The implications of these changes are substantial, particularly as the Ministry of Cities has set a target for 99% of the population to have access to adequate sanitation by 2033. The ranking utilizes data collected from the National System of Information on Sanitation (SNIS) and emphasizes the critical need for cities like Mogi das Cruzes to implement strategic reforms and improve their sanitation services to catch up with their neighbors.
