Fuel prices increased in the country over the week: how much exactly
Fuel prices in Lithuania have risen significantly over the week due to increased oil prices, with gasoline and diesel prices now averaging 1.64 and 1.95 euros per liter, respectively.
Recent data reveals a notable increase in fuel prices in Lithuania, with the average price of Brent crude oil rising to 96.5 USD per barrel during the week of March 9-15, marking a 15.5% increase from the previous week. In the subsequent days, the average price reached 103.7 USD per barrel, indicating that fuel prices are unlikely to decrease in the near future. This spike in oil prices has translated into higher retail gasoline and diesel prices at fueling stations across Lithuania.
As of March 16, the average price for gasoline in Lithuanian gas stations was recorded at 1.64 euros per liter, while diesel averaged 1.95 euros. Price fluctuations were observed, with gasoline ranging from 1.56 to 1.77 euros and diesel from 1.89 to 2.08 euros. Comparatively, neighboring countries such as Poland, Estonia, and Latvia also experienced price increases, with average gasoline prices surging between 0.5% and 5.2% last week. In Poland, the price of gasoline was about 8 cents lower than in Lithuania.
The rising fuel prices pose challenges for consumers and could have broader implications for the economy, as increased transportation costs may affect various sectors. The continued rise in oil prices, influenced by global market dynamics, suggests that consumers should prepare for sustained higher prices at the pump. The situation reflects broader trends in the Baltic region, where fuel prices are on the rise amid fluctuating crude oil prices in the international market.
