Finnish prospect received a call-up to the NHL
Finnish forward Jani Nyman has been called up from the AHL to join the NHL's Seattle Kraken due to injuries on the team.
Finnish forward Jani Nyman has been promoted from the AHL to the NHL's Seattle Kraken. This call-up is a result of a recent spate of injuries affecting the Kraken's forward lineup, including the absences of key players Eeli Tolvanen and Jaden Schwartz, which has created an opportunity for Nyman to showcase his talent at the highest level. Nyman had a productive initial week in the AHL, with impressive statistics that demonstrated his readiness for the NHL.
Earlier in the season, Nyman played 24 games with the Kraken, recording 4 goals and 2 assists, before being sent to the Coachella Valley Firebirds in late December. In the AHL, he excelled, notching 18 goals and 9 assists over 29 games, showcasing his scoring ability and playmaking skills. As the Kraken vie for a playoff spot in the Western Conference, Nyman's recent performance will be crucial as the team faces stiff competition from the Los Angeles Kings, who are also vying for the same playoff position.
Having been selected 49th overall in the 2022 NHL Draft, Nyman is considered a promising young talent. At only 21 years old, he previously played in the Finnish league, where he demonstrated substantial skill during the 2023-2024 season with Ilves, scoring 26 goals and providing 17 assists. Additionally, he has represented Finland at the international level, winning a bronze medal with the under-18 national team, indicating his potential for future success in professional hockey.
