The Hisar University has developed a hybrid variety of mustard that will increase yield

Scientists at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University in Hisar have developed the first hybrid variety of mustard, RHH 2101, which promises higher yields in irrigated areas of Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Jammu, and northern Rajasthan.

Scientists at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University have announced the development of RHH 2101, a hybrid variety of mustard. This new variety is specifically designed for timely sowing in irrigation-friendly regions, including Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Jammu, and northern Rajasthan. After three years of rigorous testing under the All India Coordinated Mustard and Rapeseed Research Project, it has been officially notified in the gazette. The vice-chancellor, Prof. Baldev Raj Kamboj, emphasized the anticipated benefits for local farmers in these areas.

RHH 2101 is notable for its substantial yield potential, averaging 28 to 30 quintals per hectare. Additionally, this variety matures in just 142 days and contains around 40% oil content, making it particularly advantageous for farmers seeking higher profitability. The innovation represents a significant advancement over older varieties, ensuring that farmers have access to more productive options that can further enhance agricultural output within the region.

In comparisons, RHH 2101 has demonstrated higher yield capacity compared to existing popular varieties. It outperforms the older RH 749 variety by 14.5% and the DMH-1 by 11%. This breakthrough could lead to improved economic conditions for mustard farmers, thereby enhancing food security and promoting agricultural sustainability in the region, which is crucial for the livelihood of many Indian farmers.
