Bonus to be given on urad, mustard will come under price assurance scheme

The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, announced financial benefits for farmers cultivating mustard and urad to ensure they receive fair prices for their produce.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav reiterated the government's commitment to transforming farmers into 'annadata' (food providers), 'urjadatas' (energy providers), and 'udhyami' (entrepreneurs) during an assembly session. He highlighted that the government's primary aim is to ensure that farmers receive profitable prices for their hard work. To achieve this, the state government has opened avenues for direct financial assistance to farmers growing mustard and urad, signaling a vital step in supporting the agricultural community in the region.

This year, the area under mustard cultivation has increased by 28%, with current market prices around ₹6000, while the Minimum Support Price (MSP) stands at ₹6200. The government plans to use the price assurance scheme to bridge the ₹200 difference (or according to eligibility criteria) to prevent farmers from incurring losses. By establishing this financial safety net, the government aims to instill confidence in farmers and ensure that they are compensated fairly for their produce, thereby stabilizing the agricultural economy.

In a move to promote crop diversification, the government has decided to provide a 'bumper' bonus of ₹600 per quintal for urad cultivation, as a replacement for summer moong crop. Additionally, proposals have been sent to the central government for the procurement of chana and masoor under the price support scheme, with targets set for 649,000 metric tons of chana and 601,000 metric tons of masoor. These initiatives reflect a broader strategy to enhance agricultural productivity and support farmers through financial and infrastructural measures.
