AKTOR – BNI Foundation sign deal for strategic mining partnership in Albania

AKTOR Group and BNI Foundation have entered into a framework agreement for mining exploration and development in Albania.

AKTOR Group and the BNI Foundation have formalized a strategic partnership aimed at exploring and exploiting mineral resources in Albania. This partnership, encapsulated in a framework agreement, will see the establishment of a joint venture which will operate under Albanian law. AKTOR Group, through its subsidiary AKTOR Metal, will possess a 51% stake in the venture, while BNI Foundation will hold 49% through its own subsidiaries. This collaboration underscores the potential for significant mineral resource extraction in the region, particularly in the Bilisht area.

The mining operation will target a range of specific mineral resources, including notable deposits of nickel and rare earth elements. Reports suggest that the mineral potential in the Bilisht area could be substantial, exceeding 500,000 tons of nickel and more than 25,000 tons of cobalt. This venture not only emphasizes the geological wealth of Albania but also aligns with broader global interests in rare earth minerals, which are increasingly crucial in various high-tech applications and green technologies.

Moreover, the agreement includes plans for the necessary infrastructure and processing facilities required for the mining operations. This includes developing and constructing modern facilities that are essential for effective resource management and processing. The implications of this partnership are significant, potentially leading to economic growth in the region, job creation, and a boost in local investments, while also ensuring that the regulatory and environmental standards are adhered to throughout the process.
