Police arrest Rivers murder suspect, exhume victim’s body
The Rivers State Police have arrested a suspect linked to the murder of a 42-year-old man believed to have been hired by a monarch.
In Rivers State, Nigeria, police arrested a 29-year-old man named Robinson Uche in connection with the murder of Shedrack Ogadinma Chukwem, a 42-year-old. Uche, along with four accomplices still at large, allegedly acted on the orders of Chief Elijah Okere, a local monarch who intended to harm Chukwem. The police's investigation, led by operatives from the Anti-Cultism Unit, culminated in Uche's arrest on March 6, 2026, at 7:30 a.m. in Port Harcourt.
The murder reportedly took place on December 17, 2025, in Igbo-Etche, a locality within the Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State. Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko provided details of the arrest, emphasizing that Uche confessed to his involvement during interrogation. He named four others he worked with, including Prince, Achor, Gift Okere, and an unnamed individual, indicating a broader conspiracy surrounding the crime.
The implications of this case highlight serious concerns regarding local governance and the influence of traditional rulers in criminal activities. With three suspects still at large, the investigation raises questions about the potential involvement of community leaders in organized crime. The ongoing developments will be closely watched as they may lead to further scrutiny of traditional authority figures in the region and their roles in violent crimes.
