Weather: Cold, storms, snow and African dust remind us of winter
Greece is expected to experience unstable winter-like weather with storms, cold temperatures, and snowfall, particularly in the southern regions, alongside an increased concentration of African dust in the atmosphere.
On Thursday, Greece will face unstable and winter-like weather, with forecasts indicating storms, strong winds, cold temperatures, and snowfall across various regions. Rain is expected nationwide, but the southern parts will experience the most precipitation, while northern Greece and the eastern Aegean will see less rainfall.
Storms are particularly predicted for the southern Ionian Sea, western Sterea, the Peloponnese, and Crete. Snowfall will occur in the mountainous inland areas, with heavier accumulation in the southern regions. By Friday morning, snow is expected to fall in the semi-mountainous areas of Sterea and the Peloponnese at elevations of 700 meters and above.
Temperatures are projected to drop, reaching around 12-14 degrees Celsius during midday in the mainland, while the southeastern sections of the country, including Crete and the Dodecanese, will remain warmer, with maximum temperatures potentially reaching 18-19 degrees. Additionally, there is an anticipation of sustained elevated levels of African dust in the atmosphere, which could impact air quality and visibility across the region.
