Weather: Storms in the West and North – Stormy South Winds – African Dust

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecasted for the western and northern regions of Greece until Sunday afternoon.

Severe weather conditions are expected in Greece, with strong rain and thunderstorms predicted in various areas, particularly in the western and northern regions. Specifically, the areas of Corfu and Paxos will experience intense rainfall starting from the morning, continuing into midday and afternoon. The region of Epirus will also be affected by heavy rain until the afternoon.

In addition to rain, there will be very strong to stormy southern winds in the Ionian Sea (reaching 7 to 8 Beaufort) and in the Aegean Sea (8 Beaufort, and up to 9 in its eastern parts). Meteorological conditions are conducive to significant transportation of African dust to eastern Greece, particularly affecting southern and central areas such as the Peloponnese, Crete, eastern Sterea (including Attica), Cyclades, and Evia.

Overall, the forecast highlights a mix of cloudiness, local rains, and sporadic thunderstorms primarily across the western, central, northern regions, and the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean, with the weather phenomena expected to intensify from the midday hours until late afternoon, indicating the necessity for preparedness against potential flooding and air quality deterioration due to the dust.
