LASG warns against illegal parking operators in Computer Village

The Lagos State Government warns motorists in Computer Village about fraudulent parking operators who are extorting drivers.

The Lagos State Government has issued a warning to motorists and residents in the Computer Village area of Ikeja regarding the presence of fraudsters posing as legitimate parking operators. The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) highlighted that these individuals are illegally charging drivers fees to park their vehicles, often using intimidation tactics to coerce payment. This warning reflects an ongoing issue with non-licensed operators attempting to profit from unsuspecting motorists.

Adebisi Adelabu, the General Manager of LASPA, revealed that the authority has discovered a scheme where these fraudsters, sometimes acting in collusion with touts, demand up to N1,000 from drivers for supposed parking services. The government's statement emphasizes the legality of parking operations, indicating that only authorized individuals can collect such fees, and warns that those caught engaging in illegal activities will face arrest and prosecution.

In addition to the warning, the authority reassured citizens of ongoing efforts to patrol the area and remove illegal parking setups. There have been reports of operatives from the Lagos Central Business District removing vehicle number plates from cars parked by these phony operators. This situation underscores the need for increased vigilance among drivers, as well as the government's commitment to protecting them from fraud.
