Footage released by lawyer Mellissa Fachinello shows the moment the Juscelino Kubitschek bridge collapsed, providing insight into the tragic event.

On December 18, 2024, a lawyer named Mellissa Fachinello released videos capturing the exact moment of the collapse of the Juscelino Kubitschek bridge in Brazil, as viewed from inside a truck's cabin. The bridge connected the state of Tocantins to Maranhão via the TO-226 and tragically collapsed, resulting in the deaths of 17 individuals, with only one survivor. The footage was recorded by a monitoring camera from a truck belonging to Expresso Geração, a transport company that Fachinello works with.

The lawyer expressed her frustrations regarding the lack of financial compensation for the fishermen and assistance for the families of the victims who suffered as a result of the disaster. The bridge's collapse highlighted significant safety concerns about the country's infrastructure, as it has raised questions about accountability and the role of the Department of National Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) concerning any potential negligence or delays in necessary repairs and maintenance.

In a poignant reminder of the tragedy, a new bridge was inaugurated in December 2025, taking over a year to replace the structure following the event. Nonetheless, the emotional and psychological scars left by the disaster remain fresh for many families impacted, who continue to await justice and support from authorities as they navigate their grief and loss.
