City Hall expands fogging service with 10 cars per day
The City Hall of São José dos Campos has increased the number of daily vehicles for fogging to ten in order to combat the high incidence of mosquitoes this season.
The City Hall of São José dos Campos has announced an expansion of its fogging service, increasing the number of vehicles deployed from five to ten per day. This initiative, which operates Monday to Saturday during both day and night, aims to reduce the high incidence of mosquitoes seen during this time of year. The fogging treatment is specifically designed to target adult mosquitoes in flight, enhancing public health efforts against these pests.
While the application of fogging can effectively reduce adult mosquito populations, it does not eliminate larvae, prompting the city to complement this initiative with larvicidal treatments in local water bodies such as streams and rivers. According to the Ministry of Health, fogging is an emergency vector control strategy that is employed in regions with particularly high mosquito populations. To maximize effectiveness, the insecticide droplets released need to penetrate backyards and residential interiors.
The city employs biological larvicides as part of its comprehensive mosquito control strategy, which is responsible for about 80% of the mosquito population management. This multi-faceted approach to pest control aims not only to provide immediate relief from adult mosquitoes but also to address the root problem by reducing larval populations, ultimately improving quality of life for residents in São José dos Campos.
