Art Exhibition Vandalized in Helsinki: Three Works Destroyed, €8,000 in Damages
An art exhibition in Helsinki suffered vandalism, resulting in damage to three artworks and an estimated cost of €8,000.
In Helsinki, an art exhibition titled "Unbound" opened at the Itis shopping center last Friday, but unfortunately, several of the exhibited works have become the target of vandalism. The artist, Tiia Henriksson, reported that six of her pieces were vandalized, with one piece incurring damage during the weekend. This incident has deeply affected her, as she noted that her artworks hold personal significance and emotional value for her.
The vandalism was initially discovered when Henriksson received messages from acquaintances who visited the exhibition. She expressed her shock and emotional reaction to the news, stating how art is always personal to her. The overall estimated cost of the damages amounts to roughly €8,000, which includes a mix of repairable and irreparable artworks. Although she is relieved to be able to repair two of the affected pieces, one of them is beyond repair, which adds to her distress.
Henriksson does not yet know who was behind the act of vandalism but is considering reporting the incident to the police. This event marks a concerning first for her, as she has never encountered any form of vandalism directed at her artworks in previous exhibitions, highlighting the unfortunate risks artists face in displaying their work publicly.
