Someone is knocking down deer towers again – Eight down in Kouvola
Eight deer towers were vandalized in Kouvola, Finland, last week, with damages estimated to be between one and two thousand euros.
In Kouvola, specifically in the area of Elimäki, eight deer towers were destroyed last week. The towers are located along a logging road, a few kilometers from the intersection of Elimäki's church village heading towards Helsinki. Out of the vandalized towers, five belong to the Elimäen Eräveikot hunting club, while the rest belong to the Mustila hunting club. Sami Tapio, the chairman of the Elimäen Eräveikot, stated that at least one tower was overlooked while the others were systematically destroyed.
Sami Tapio reported that a witness driving by on the evening of March 4th noticed that the towers were still intact, which suggests that the vandalism occurred shortly after that time, between the nights of March 4th and 5th. Upon receiving news of the damage on Thursday, Tapio promptly filed a police report. The estimated damages range from one thousand to two thousand euros, and Tapio mentioned that there are plans to potentially rebuild the destroyed towers.
Police investigation leader, Chief Inspector Sari Viipuri, confirmed that they had received a report regarding the incidents on the nights of March 4th to 5th, and the local authorities are now looking into the matter. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about vandalism affecting hunting properties and clubs in Finland, bringing attention to the need for better security and community vigilance in protecting these facilities.
