UFS Administrative Technicians Go on Indefinite Strike
Around 1,400 technical-administrative workers at the Federal University of Sergipe began an indefinite strike to demand fulfillment of a previous labor agreement.
On Wednesday, April 18, approximately 1,400 technical-administrative workers from the Federal University of Sergipe (UFS) officially commenced an indefinite strike. This action was highlighted by the workers as part of a larger national movement aimed at pressuring the Federal Government to adhere to an agreement originally made in 2024, which has several outstanding issues that remain unresolved.
The striking workers outlined several key demands, including the repositioning of retired staff, the implementation of a 30-hour work week, a review of job responsibilities, adjustments for veterinarian professionals, and the regulation of the Recognition of Knowledge and Skills (RSC). These demands reflect the workers' broader concerns about job security and fair compensation, underscoring the ongoing issues in higher education labor relations across Brazil.
Despite the strike, the UFS has ensured that essential services will continue to operate with a minimum contingency of 30% of staff. This compromise aims to maintain critical university functions while the workers continue their push for better conditions, raising awareness of the pressing labor issues faced by educational staff in the country.
