The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) of Rivers State has announced the capture of 39 suspected drug peddlers in a significant crackdown on drug-related activities. This operation, which took place from December 2025 to March 2026, resulted in the arrest of 30 individuals, including three females, along with the seizure of approximately 14.83 kilograms of various illegal drugs. During this period, the NDLEA successfully secured 12 convictions against drug traffickers, indicating a proactive stance against drug distribution in the region.
The Commander of the NDLEA's Rivers State Command, Bature Dawa, revealed these developments during a visit to the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr. Dagogo Wokoma. He highlighted that the ongoing efforts have led to the investigation of 16 new cases, demonstrating the agency's commitment to tackling the drug menace. The NDLEA's operations not only involve law enforcement but also emphasize drug demand reduction strategies aimed at curbing drug abuse in the community.
This enforcement action is part of the broader initiatives by the NDLEA to address the growing issue of drug trafficking in Nigeria. The agency's success in securing convictions reflects the judicial system's engagement in prosecuting drug-related offenses and serves as a deterrent for potential offenders. The sustained efforts of the NDLEA are essential in striving for a drug-free society in Rivers State and beyond, contributing to public safety and health.
