NDLEA officer killed in Rivers drug raid, six suspects arrested
An NDLEA officer was killed during a drug raid in Rivers State, Nigeria, where six suspects were arrested and a sizable amount of illegal drugs was seized.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Nigeria conducted a significant drug raid in Ama Hausa on Bonny Island, Rivers State, leading to the death of Chief Narcotic Agent Sadiq Bako Mujahid. During the operation, which took place on February 6, 2026, NDLEA operatives arrested six suspects involved in drug trafficking and seized a variety of illegal substances including cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, skunk, and tramadol.
The raid turned violent when the suspects, led by reported gang leader Genesis George Benson, retaliated against the operatives by mobilizing armed assailants to resist arrest. Tragically, Chief Mujahid suffered severe head injuries due to the attack and was rushed to Bonny Island General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The NDLEA's statement underscored the dangers faced by law enforcement personnel in drug operations, particularly in regions known for rampant drug trafficking.
Despite the tragic loss, the NDLEA remains committed to fighting drug trafficking and ensuring public safety in Nigeria. The operation highlights the ongoing battle against organized crime and the challenging circumstances faced by law enforcement agencies in the country. The agency's efforts to dismantle drug syndicates continue as they seek justice for the fallen officer and aim to provide a safer environment for the residents of Rivers State and beyond.
