An 11-year-old boy and his grandmother were injured in a house fire in Conceição, Paraíba, when the boy accidentally set fire to some papers while the grandmother was asleep.

According to reports from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu), the child, who is autistic, hid in the bathroom and accidentally ignited some papers while his grandmother was sleeping. This unfortunate event left the grandmother with burns while she tried to rescue her grandson.

Both the child and the grandmother were initially taken to the local hospital in Conceição for immediate care. While the grandmother sustained lighter burns, the child suffered serious injuries with 60% of his body burned. The hospital staff worked quickly to stabilize the victims, paying particular attention to the boy's severe facial burns, which necessitated intubation to secure his airways. The grandmother, on the other hand, remains hospitalized but her condition is reported as stable.
