Children saved from fire were sleeping while the house burned in Uberlândia: 'Room burned next', says mother
In Uberlândia, five children were rescued from a house fire by their grandmother just in time as they were sleeping during the incident.
In a harrowing incident in Uberlândia, Brazil, five children aged 2, 5, 9, 10, and 13 were saved from a devastating house fire that was triggered by an electrical short circuit in an adjacent room. As the flames rapidly spread through their home, the children remained unaware, all asleep in their bedroom. Their mother, Letícia Maria de Souza, described the panic she felt when she noticed smoke billowing from her house shortly after she left to pick up a food container.
Letícia recounted that upon returning, she was overwhelmed by fear for her family. Thankfully, her 60-year-old mother, Marlene Maria de Souza, and a neighbor managed to assist in evacuating the children alongside crucial household items like a gas cylinder and stove from the burning house. This intervention likely prevented a tragedy, as the fire advanced quickly and engulfed the children's room shortly after they were saved.
The local Civil Defense Authority has since informed the family that they will not be able to return to their home until the damage has been assessed and deemed safe. This incident highlights the importance of fire safety measures and awareness, especially in homes with young children, and serves as a tragic reminder of how quickly situations can escalate in moments of negligence such as an electrical fault.
