Self-proclaimed specialist Medians arrested for sexual harassment
Medians, a self-proclaimed specialist accused of sexual harassment, was arrested following several reports of inappropriate conduct during consultations with patients.
The case of Medians, a self-proclaimed expert in treating addictions, has attracted attention following a report by Latvian Television's 'De facto' in January. The Health Inspectorate initiated an investigation after the report uncovered his practice of unauthorized treatment methods without any medical qualifications. Medians supposedly completed a four-day course in classical hypnosis and claimed to offer cures for various addictions, raising serious concerns about patient safety and ethical standards in treatment.
Multiple individuals have come forward to police, alleging that they experienced sexual harassment during their consultations with Medians. Several women, who had not previously known each other, reported similar experiences of inappropriate behavior within his office, including unwanted touching during massages offered at the end of consultations. Medians, on the other hand, denies these allegations, asserting that he has never touched anyone inappropriately, creating a conflicting narrative that highlights issues of credibility and victim support.
Despite the alarming nature of these allegations, not all victims have chosen to report their experiences to the police, with some expressing feelings of shame connected to their addictions. This reluctance underscores the complexities many face when navigating personal trauma and public scrutiny, raising questions about the protective measures in place for vulnerable individuals seeking help. The ongoing investigation by authorities may shine a light on both Medians’ practices and the broader implications for regulation in addiction treatment in Latvia.
