Arrested self-proclaimed hypnosis specialist accused of sexual harassment

A self-proclaimed hypnosis specialist, Andris Medians, has been arrested in Latvia for allegedly committing sexual violence against female clients while offering treatment for various addictions.

In early March, the State Police of Latvia detained a man who posed as an experienced hypnosis specialist, offering to cure various addictions while reportedly committing sexual violence against his clients. The police have confirmed that three individuals have been recognized as victims in the ongoing investigation. The arrested individual, identified as Andris Medians, allegedly marketed himself as a specialist in addiction treatment with over 20 years of experience and practiced unconventional treatment methods, notably hypnosis, in the Vecriga area of Riga.

The criminal proceedings against Medians began on January 9, following a report of possible sexual abuse involving three victims. Evidence gathered in the investigation reveals that he scheduled consultations with clients under the pretense of helping them overcome their dependencies, despite lacking the legal rights to engage in such commercial activities. This troubling case highlights the risks associated with unregulated practitioners in the field of mental health and addiction treatment, as he misled vulnerable individuals seeking help through potentially life-altering methods.

The ongoing pre-trial investigation is being closely monitored, with police emphasizing the importance of uncovering the extent of Medians' actions and ensuring that all victims receive the necessary support. The case serves as a warning about the need for proper regulation and oversight in alternative therapies to protect individuals from exploitation by those posing as qualified professionals.
