Freedom restricted for five young people who dealt with narcotics in Panevėžys
Five young individuals in Panevėžys have received sentences for their involvement in narcotics distribution, with varying degrees of penalties depending on their criminal histories.
The court case reviewed by Judge Nida Solovjovienė in Biržai revealed that the convicted individuals communicated through messaging apps and made arrangements to transfer narcotics at pre-agreed locations or designated coordinates. The defendants all admitted to their criminal activities and expressed genuine remorse for their actions.
The most severe penalty was given to 23-year-old Dovydas Juzėnas from Biržai district, who has a prior criminal record with four previous convictions. The court deemed him a recidivist and, acknowledging that his past offenses remained active and his failure to reform, sentenced him to a consolidated 11-month imprisonment term. This highlights a growing concern over repeat offenses in drug-related cases.
Another defendant, a 33-year-old from Pasvalys, received a 30-day arrest sentence due to his past convictions and current family responsibilities. The court considered his job and the nature of his crime, determining that a short-term imprisonment would suffice for rehabilitative purposes. This case brings attention to the judicial system's approach to handling drug-related offenses, notably when assessing the defendants' backgrounds and potential for rehabilitation.
