SWDC partners FTID to boost South West rural development
The South-West Development Commission has teamed up with the Technology Innovation and Sustainable Development to enhance food production and infrastructure in rural communities across South-West Nigeria.
The South-West Development Commission (SWDC) has announced a partnership with the Technology Innovation and Sustainable Development (FTID) to initiate a project aimed at improving food production and infrastructural development in South-West rural communities. This initiative, known as 'Transformed Communities,' will focus on clusters of contiguous farming communities, aiming to implement coordinated enhancements in essential infrastructure, agriculture, small-scale agro-processing, and skills development.
The 'Transformed Communities' project, according to a statement issued on Tuesday, is designed to create opportunities for economic growth while enhancing the overall quality of life for residents in these areas. With FTID acting as a technical partner, the project will be implemented through a structured framework, allowing for systematic rollouts that depend on formal approvals and collaboration between various government entities.
In a recent meeting with FTID's Executive Director, Prof. Banji Oy, both organizations discussed the importance of this project for the development of rural and semi-urban areas in the Southwest region of Nigeria. The emphasis on increasing agricultural yields through improved infrastructure and support systems highlights a progressive approach to rural development, which could also serve as a model for similar initiatives in other regions of Nigeria.
