Guayaquil group premieres 'Scream Direction', absurd theater and black comedy, this Thursday March 19
A Guayaquil theater group, Colectivo Barullo, unveils its adaptation of 'Direction Critorium' in an absurd comedy that reflects on societal norms prohibiting expression.
The play 'Dirección gritadero' performs a gripping narrative where three women impatiently await a bus to the Gritadero, a place where they can express their frustrations in a future where screaming is outlawed. Adapted from the French playwright Guy Foissy's 'Direction Critorium', the performance aims to engage young audiences, particularly final-year high school students, encouraging them to reflect through art. The play offers a glimpse into a satirical society that restricts emotional expression, thereby addressing important social issues through humor and absurdity.
The Colectivo Barullo, composed chiefly of final-year students from Universidad Casa Grande, approaches their graduation project with seriousness and sophistication, bringing together talents from various disciplines, including audiovisual production, graphic design, and psychology. Their goal is to make theater accessible and relatable to contemporary youth, bridging the gap between traditional theatrical forms and modern societal experiences. This initiative is not only about entertainment; it seeks to instill a deeper understanding of emotional health and societal constraints through engaging performances.
The premiere will take place on March 19 and 20 at Teatro Casa Zona Escena, located at the intersection of Imbabura 204 and Panamá, in front of the Museo del Cacao. By creating a narrative that resonates with daily frustrations and societal limitations, the production presents a unique opportunity for audiences to reflect on their own experiences and the ramifications of living in a world where emotional expression could be curtailed. This performance will likely serve as a catalyst for conversations about freedom of expression and the importance of emotional outlets in contemporary society.
