Curfew in Guayas: Restaurants, bars, and nightclubs adjust hours and move up performances during the measure's duration

Following the announcement of a curfew in four provinces of Ecuador, establishments in Guayaquil are adjusting their operating hours to comply.

The Ecuadorian government has announced a curfew from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM, affecting the provinces of Guayas, Los Ríos, Santo Domingo, and El Oro from March 15 to March 30. This decision aims to curtail illegal activities, including illegal mining and drug trafficking, which have been prevalent in these areas. As a result, individuals in these provinces will need to remain at home during the designated hours, significantly impacting nightlife and related businesses.

In Guayaquil, many restaurants, bars, and nightclubs, which typically operate late into the night, are expected to face substantial operational changes. Patricio Pareja, president of the Guayas Association of Bars and Nightclubs, indicated that at least 60% of local establishments will not open during the curfew period due to the timing of their peak business hours. Others will attempt to modify their schedules to accommodate the new regulations, but such adjustments may not be feasible for all businesses.

The curfew reflects the government's approach to addressing crime and public safety in affected areas. While aimed at improving security, this measure poses significant challenges for local economies that rely on nightlife and entertainment sectors. The effects on these businesses could lead to broader economic implications, especially in regions already grappling with economic hardships.
