Tolls on BR-153 and BR-262 in Triângulo Mineiro will start at R$ 12

Tolls on the BR-153 and BR-262 highways in the Triângulo Mineiro region of Brazil will be charged starting March 26, with rates varying from R$ 12 to R$ 113.60 depending on vehicle category.

Starting at midnight on March 26, three toll plazas operated by Way-153 and Way-262 will come into effect on the BR-153 and BR-262 highways in the Triângulo Mineiro region, specifically in the towns of Prata, Fronteira, and Campo Florido. The rates, as approved by the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT), will range from R$ 12 to R$ 113.60, depending on the vehicle's category and number of axles. Importantly, certain vehicles such as motorcycles, ambulances, and diplomatic vehicles are exempt from these tolls.

The basic toll rate for standard vehicles, including cars and vans, will be R$ 13.20 in Prata, R$ 12 in Fronteira, and R$ 14.20 in Campo Florido. These rates represent an increase over what was previously charged by the former toll operator. The adjustment reflects ongoing changes within Brazil's transport infrastructure, aimed at improving roadway conditions and funding maintenance through toll revenues, despite concerns about increasing transportation costs for residents and goods in the area.

As the tolls kick in, local residents and transportation operators will need to adapt to the new costs associated with travel in the region, which might influence both daily commutes and the pricing of goods transported by road. The change in toll pricing and structure may also spark discussions about the fairness and sustainability of toll systems in Brazil, particularly in regions still recovering from economic challenges.
