Tolls on BR-153 begin charging in Piracanjuba and Itumbiara

Toll charges will commence on BR-153 in Piracanjuba and Itumbiara, Goiás, starting March 26.

Toll collection on sections of BR-153 in the municipalities of Piracanjuba and Itumbiara in Goiás will officially begin on March 26. This decision was authorized by the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) as part of the concession agreement for this stretch of the highway managed by the concessionaire Way-153. The implementation of tolls is part of a broader strategy to improve highway infrastructure and maintenance in Brazil.

The toll rates have been set depending on the type of vehicle using the road. For passenger vehicles, the toll will be R$ 15.60 in Piracanjuba and R$ 14.90 in Itumbiara. Heavier vehicles such as light trucks, buses, and tractors will incur a charge of R$ 31.20 in Piracanjuba and R$ 29.80 in Itumbiara. Additionally, for larger vehicles, such as trucks with multiple axles, fees can escalate to R$ 46.80 and R$ 44.70 in Piracanjuba and Itumbiara respectively, depending on their category. These rates reflect the usual pricing structure for toll roads in Brazil.

The launch of these tolls is part of a larger set of five toll plazas coming into operation along this stretch of BR-153, which extends from Hidrolândia. This measure aims not only to raise funds for the upkeep of the road but also to enhance the overall travel experience by ensuring better road conditions. The introduction of tolls is often met with mixed reactions from local residents, who see the need for better roads but also feel the financial burden of additional travel costs.
